Sandholt primed for 2027

Icelandic-born goalshooter Elsa Sif Sandholt is set to build on a career-best 2026 season after being confirmed as a Queensland Firebirds training partner for 2027.

Firebird No.117 first entered the Firebirds’ senior program as a training partner in 2025, debuting in the final round of that season against the NSW Swifts.

She took a significant step forward last year, earning the club’s Eleventh Player spot and making five Super Netball appearances, finishing with 58 goals to her name, including eight Super Shots.

The 22-year-old’s talents have not gone unnoticed nationally either, with Sandholt having previously been a member of the Australian 21 and Under squad and joining the Australian Pathways team on a tour of Tonga in 2025.

Her height, athleticism and increasing composure under the post mark her as one of the most promising young shooters in the country.

“I’m really excited to be back in purple for 2027,” Sandholt said.

“I’m keen to build on my performances from this year and continue growing my game in a new-look shooting end.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the support from the Purple Family throughout 2026, and I can’t wait to see what this group can achieve together in 2027.”

Firebirds Head Coach Kiri Wills said Sandholt’s development had been one of the highlights of the 2026 season.

“Elsa has made some really big strides both on and off the court, and we’ve genuinely only scratched the surface of what she’s capable of,” Wills said.

“She’s hungry to learn, she backs herself in big moments, and every time she’s stepped onto the court this year she’s grown in confidence. We can’t wait to keep building her game in 2027.”
