Ava Black is back

Sunshine Coast Lightning is pleased to announce mid-courter Ava Black will re-sign with the Club after missing the last season due to injury.

The 22-year-old, who played her first year of SSN in 2024, was contracted for 2025 but suffered a ruptured ACL during the pre-season, seeing her sidelined for the entire season.

Black is known for her athleticism and brings height and energy to the midcourt, with the ability to play across all three midcourt positions.

Sunshine Coast Lightning Head Coach Belinda Reynolds was excited to see Black return to the court.

“I am beyond excited to have Ava back next season and see her make her return to the court,” she said.

“I’ve seen first-hand how much work Ava has put in behind the scenes to ensure she comes back fitter and stronger than ever, and I know she’s absolutely itching to get back out there for her second full season in the SSN.

“Ava is fast, athletic and a ball winner, and she brings a lot of energy to the court whether that’s through Wing Attack, Centre or Wing Defence. It’s her ability to cover all three mid court positions that makes her a valuable asset to our team.”

With Black secured for 2026, Lightning has now confirmed eight athletes to form the squad next season, with only two contracts still to be locked in.
