SEG officially assumes ownership of Sydney Sirens
Sports Entertainment Group (SEG) has today completed the acquisition of the Super Netball licence previously operated as GIANTS Netball.
As previously mentioned SEG have now officially assumed ownership from Netball NSW as the club prepares to compete as the Sydney Sirens in 2027.
The completion follows the recent unveiling of the Sydney Sirens name and identity, and marks a significant milestone in SEG’s long-term investment in netball and Australian women’s sport.
The Sirens join the Melbourne Mavericks as SEG’s second Super Netball club, strengthening the organisation’s commitment to growing the game through team ownership, broadcast coverage, content and community engagement.
Based in Sydney, the Sirens will build on the foundations established by GIANTS Netball over the past decade, maintaining a strong connection to Western Sydney while embracing opportunities to engage fans, partners and communities across New South Wales.
The club enters this next chapter with the support of Principal Partner HCF, a committed family of partners with strong historical ties to the club, and a passionate membership community that SEG looks forward to welcoming into the Sydney Sirens era.
CEO of SEN Teams, Richard Simkiss, said the completed transfer marked an important step for both SEG and the club. “Today formally begins our stewardship of the Sydney Sirens, and we are excited to get to work alongside the club’s players, coaches and staff as we prepare for the 2027 season,” Simkiss said.
“We have enormous respect for the contribution Netball NSW has made to this club and for the players, staff, members and partners who have helped shape its history. We thank Netball NSW for working with us through the transition.
“Our responsibility is to build on that foundation, support the club to succeed on and off the court, and give existing and new supporters a team they are proud to get behind.”
The Sirens enter SEG ownership with their full contracted squad of 10 confirmed for 2027. Sophie Dwyer, Molly Jovic, Matisse Letherbarrow, Grace Nweke, Claire O’Brien, Erin O’Brien, Teigan O’Shannassy, Amy Sligar, Jodi-Ann Ward and Hope White will represent the club in its inaugural season, with Eva Carneiro, Matilda Fanning, Audrey Little, Skye Thompson and Monika ‘Otai joining as Training Partners.
Head Coach Nerida Stewart will lead the team alongside Assistant Coach Jen Wright, providing continuity as the club prepares for its next chapter.
Simkiss said SEG’s experience across team ownership and sports media would support the Sirens’ development.
“Through the Melbourne Mavericks, we have seen the depth of passion for netball and the opportunities that come from investing in the experience for players, members, fans and partners,” Simkiss said.
“We see enormous potential for the Sydney Sirens. SEG brings the resources of a broader sports and media business to help the club build its profile, strengthen its commercial foundations and connect with more people across New South Wales.
“We are committed to supporting both the Sirens and Mavericks to thrive in their own markets, with distinct identities and operational independence.”
SEG’s investment in netball extends beyond its clubs. SEN Netball completed its third consecutive season of Super Netball coverage in 2026, broadcasting a Match of the Round each week, alongside programming including Nothing But Netball. SEG’s television production business, Rainmaker, also produces Centre Court with Kelsey Browne.
The Sydney Sirens will make their Super Netball debut in 2027, with exciting announcements regarding memberships, partnerships and community initiatives to follow in the coming weeks.
