Every team needs a Nat

Its been another great season for Nat which makes the headline even more relevant!.

The 2026 season was a standout year for Natalie Metcalf, made even more special by the fact that she was officially sponsored by The Netball Show with Flyhawk, as we championed her every step of the way.

We have nothing but pride in her performances mirrored which clearly echoed the feelings of Thunder fans across the country — she played with a level of consistency, leadership, and flair that reaffirmed her status as one of the most influential mid‑courters in the league. Whether driving the ball through attack or setting the tone with her trademark composure, Metcalf embodied everything Thunder wanted to be this season.

Across the campaign, Metcalf’s impact was felt in every third of the court. Her connection with the attacking circle sharpened as the season progressed, allowing Thunder to build fluid, fast‑paced passages of play that became their signature.

Defensively, she was just as valuable, disrupting opposition flow and turning half‑chances into momentum‑shifting gains. Her ability to read the game — to know when to slow it, when to accelerate, and when to take control — made her a constant problem for opponents and a stabilising force for her teammates.

As captain, Metcalf’s leadership was just as important as her technical brilliance. She set standards in training, demanded excellence on court, and nurtured the younger players stepping into bigger roles. Her voice was calm but authoritative, and her presence in pressure moments was often the difference between Thunder holding their nerve or letting a game slip away. It was clear throughout the season that the squad looked to her not just for direction, but for belief.

By the end of the campaign, Metcalf had cemented herself as one of Thunder’s most influential figures — a player whose professionalism, creativity, and competitive edge elevated the entire squad. Her partnership with Karen Greig continued to flourish, with Greig frequently praising her captain’s ability to “drive standards and inspire those around her.” For Thunder, for her sponsor, and for the fans who followed every moment, Metcalf’s season was a masterclass in leadership and elite performance — a year that reinforced exactly why she remains one of the most respected figures in the Netball Super League.
