Commonwealth Games Update

Here’s the latest from the opening games.

Scotland vs New Zealand
Scotland opened the Glasgow 2026 netball competition in front of a home crowd at the Hydro and stayed competitive during the opening stages against world number two New Zealand. The Silver Ferns gradually took control, building a strong lead by half-time before pulling away in the second half. Despite the defeat, Scotland recorded their second-highest ever score against New Zealand, showing plenty of attacking promise. Final score: New Zealand 74-44 Scotland.

England vs Northern Ireland
England made an impressive start to their campaign against Northern Ireland, using relentless defensive pressure to force turnovers and establish a commanding advantage early in the match. The Roses dominated throughout all four quarters, finishing with 20 gains and recording one of their highest-ever Commonwealth Games totals as Northern Ireland struggled to contain England’s attacking combinations. Final score: England 83-34 Northern Ireland.

Wales vs Uganda
Wales were involved in one of the most competitive matches of the opening day against Uganda. After trailing narrowly at the first break, the Welsh Feathers responded strongly and led by five goals at half-time through the shooting partnership of Bethan Dyke and Georgia Rowe. However, Uganda produced a decisive third quarter and maintained their momentum to secure victory despite Wales’ efforts to fight back. Final score: Uganda 59-50 Wales.

Wales vs Scotland
The first Home Nations derby of the tournament took place on day two as Wales and Scotland met in Pool B. Scotland bounced back well from their opening defeat, producing a strong display to earn their first win of the Games, while Wales slipped to a second consecutive defeat. Final score: Scotland 56-47 Wales.

England vs Australia
England’s second match brought a heavyweight clash with defending champions Australia. The Roses were unable to repeat their famous Gold Coast 2018 victory as the Diamonds controlled much of the contest, securing an important Pool A win and handing England their first defeat of the tournament. Final score: Australia 66-47 England.
