Sinclair announces retirement
Sunshine Coast Lightning shooter, Gabby Sinclair has announced her retirement from professional netball.
Lightning player #39, arrived on the Sunshine Coast prior to the 2026 season, adding depth to the shooting circle with her prowess from Super Shot range.
Beginning her Super Netball career in 2019 Sinclair has played for five different clubs across a stellar eight-year career.
Following her time as a Collingwood Magpie, the ever-reliable scorer did two separate stints in the UK with the LexisNexis (formerly Celtic) Dragons and Birmingham Panthers, with a year in Melbounre playing for the newly established Mavericks in 2024.
Reflecting on her time in professional netball, Sinclair said she was incredibly grateful for the opportunities she has been afforded and relationships she’s forged along the way.
“I’d like to thank Lightning and all the clubs who have been part of my career,” she said.
“I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to play netball professionally and live out my childhood dream.
To finish my career after eight years at the elite level is something I’m incredibly proud of.
“Netball has challenged me in ways I never thought possible but also led me to some incredible experiences.
“The chance to play sport overseas and travel the world is something I’ll always look back on fondly.
“I’ve met some incredible people throughout my career and made friendships that I’ll cherish forever
“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and been part of my journey. My career would not be possible without you all.
“I’ve been able to make a home here on the Coast and I’m excited for the next chapter and where it will take me.”
Sinclair appeared eight times for the Lightning in 2026, finishing the year with 25 goals and 10 super shots and a Lightning debut in Round four against the Melbourne Vixens.
Lightning head coach Belinda Reynolds thanked Sinclair for her contribution to the club across the season.
“We’ve loved having Gabby as part of our team over the last season, she’s been a great person to have at the club,” she said.
“As someone who has played across a number of teams, in different competitions around the world, Gabby’s experience has been an asset to our cub and the netball community.
“Gabby should be extremely proud of what she has achieved in her netball career, I know we are going to miss her here at the Lightning.”
Sinclair’s retirement follows on from the announcement of Ava Black’s two-year deal.
