Netball World Youth Cup 2025: Day 1 – 20th September

The Netball Youth World Cup 2025 began in Gibraltar with 16 of the 20 teams in the competition in action today across two venues.

At the Europa Sports Complex, teams from Gibraltar, Cook Islands, Australia, Northern Ireland, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Barbados took to the court.

Hosts Gibraltar opened the tournament with a 29 – 73 defeat to Cook Islands.

Tournament contenders Australia recorded an opening day victory with a 79 – 15 win over Northern Ireland.

In the final match at the Europa, South Africa recorded the highest score of the day with a comprehensive 102 – 27 win over Barbados.

At the Tercentenary Sports Hall, it was teams from New Zealand, Zambia, Samoa, Scotland, Tonga, Wales, Fiji and Trinidad & Tobago in action.

It was a very tightly contested match between Samoa and Scotland, with Scotland finally coming out on top with a 51 – 49 victory.

Wales ran out winners against Tonga in the second match at the Tercentenary Sports Hall with a 58 – 40 win, making it three out of the four nations from Britain securing an opening day victory.

Things were wrapped up at the Tercentenary with Fiji securing a hard fought 53 – 40 win over Trinidad & Tobago.
