A netball post in every park?

How much is this a reality.

Netball is the most played sport for girls and women in Australia, the UK and many other Commonwealth countries — yet walk through your local park, and you’ll see basketball hoops, football pitches, cricket nets… but rarely a netball post.

This lack of visibility matters. Without accessible spaces to play, too many girls drop out of sport in their teens. Too often, netball gets boxed in as nostalgic or “just for school.” But we know it’s so much more: fast, physical, explosive, and impossible to ignore when it’s given the stage.

That’s why I’m supporting Alexa Prinno’s petition to install netball hoops in public parks. Equal access to facilities isn’t just a fairness issue — it’s how we grow participation, build confidence, and give netball the identity it truly deserves in the public eye. While this petition starts in Australia, it has the potential to inspire change globally — with Australia leading the way.

More hoops mean more players. More players mean more visibility. And visibility is how netball finds its voice.

What’s the bigger picture here?

*Accessible hoops mean more children trying netball for the first time.
*Parks with netball facilities create safe, social spaces for communities.
*Netball’s grassroots will thrive when it’s visible outside the four walls of a club.
*And yes — boys play too. Netball is one of the fastest-growing mixed sports, and giving it space in public parks normalises that diversity.

This is about more than sport — it’s about equality, community health, and a sense of belonging.

Sign the petition here to make our parks more inclusive, more inspiring, and more representative of the sport we love.
