LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons today announces the permanent signing of Celena Appleby-Prince as a replacement for injured goalkeeper/defence Leah Middleton. Middleton sustained an ankle injury during the fixture on Friday 28th March, ruling her out for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Appleby-Prince, an England Future Rose, arrives from Loughborough Lightning’s NXT Gen and brings dynamic energy and on-court intelligence to the Dragons’ defence. Her first match in the game day squad will see her in familiar territory, as LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons face Loughborough Lightning this Saturday, 12th April.

Speaking on the announcement, Reinga Bloxham, Head Coach of LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons, said: “We’re heartbroken for Leah and wish her a full and speedy recovery. Celena brings fresh talent and confidence to our squad at a crucial point in the season. She’s an exciting young player with great composure and vision, and we’re looking forward to seeing her in action in green.”

Celena Appleby-Prince said: “Joining LexisNexis CardiffDragons is an incredible opportunity. I’ve been made to feel so welcome already and can’t wait to get out on the court with the team and contribute to our 2025 campaign.”
