Anstiss named new Fever Captain

West Coast Fever has named midcourter Jess Anstiss as the Club’s 13th Captain ahead of the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball Season.

The WA pathway product has played 101 National League Games for Fever since making her debut in 2017 and will be supported by Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Alice Teague-Neeld as the Club’s two Vice Captains.

Anstiss said: “It is very exciting and a great honour to be named the Captain of this Club. It’s a Club that I have grown up dreaming to play for and to have the opportunity to play and now lead West Coast Fever is a huge privilege. I’m not one of those leaders who is a big loud talking leader. I am more one that leads by action and with this new group of athletes I want to be able to drive those standards by my actions and I hope that I inspire the team to come along the journey with me.”

Fever Head Coach Dan Ryan said: “Jess has been the heart and soul of our Club for a very long time.

“When she was a young kid she was dreaming about playing for Fever and attending Fever games. Now she is a premiership player and one of the most respected, trusted and admired figures of our great Club and the WA Netball community, so to have her as our new Club Captain is an outstanding achievement. It was an overwhelming response towards Jess from all the nominations and she has the backing of every single player, training partner, coach and staff member. It was a unanimous call which says a lot about her character and I’m so excited as to see what she can bring to the team as our leader.”

“She’s the perfect fit to lead our new team in this new environment we are creating, which really champions equality and a team first approach. No one represents our team first mantra better than Jess, she’s just the ultimate team player and a great human being. I know she is going to do a brilliant job for us.”

Origin Australian Diamonds Defender Sunday Aryang has also been identified as an Emerging Leader, with the Club making a commitment to support Sunday’s leadership journey in the coming years.
