London Mavericks Land Championship-Winning Double Swoop

Natalie Metcalf and Josie Huckle will team up once again with Tamsin Greenway for next season.

London Mavericks have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2027 Netball Super League season with the high-profile signings of England international Natalie Metcalf and experienced defender Josie Huckle, bringing a wealth of championship pedigree, leadership and elite-level experience to Tamsin Greenway’s side.

Fresh from helping Manchester Thunder secure the 2026 Netball Super League title, both players arrive in the capital as proven winners with distinguished careers at domestic and international level.

Metcalf joins Mavericks as one of the most decorated and respected players in world netball. Widely regarded as one of the game’s premier wing attacks, the England Roses star has earned 89 international caps since making her debut in 2015 and has represented her country at three Commonwealth Games and two Netball World Cups. Her impressive medal collection includes Commonwealth Games gold in 2018, World Cup silver in 2023 and bronze in 2019.

The playmaker’s club career has been equally successful, with spells at Yorkshire Jets, Wasps, Manchester Thunder and Australia’s NSW Swifts delivering four Netball Super League titles and two Suncorp Super Netball championships. In Thunder’s 2026 title-winning campaign, Metcalf recorded 250 feeds, 102 centre pass receives and nine deflections across 13 appearances, underlining her continued influence at the highest level.

Joining her from Thunder is five-time Netball Super League champion Josie Huckle, who makes an emotional return to the club where her top-flight career began in 2012. One of the league’s most accomplished defenders, Huckle has collected league titles with Surrey Storm, Wasps and Manchester Thunder and has built a reputation as one of the competition’s most consistent and reliable defensive performers.

After joining Thunder ahead of the 2023 season, Huckle became a key figure within the squad, helping the club reach a Grand Final before being named vice-captain in 2025. She led the team in interceptions, deflections, gains and pickups, further cementing her status among the league’s elite defenders. Huckle also represented England Roses, making her senior debut in 2017 and contributing to a Europe Open Championship-winning campaign.

Together, Metcalf and Huckle bring a formidable blend of leadership, experience and winning mentality to the Mavericks. Metcalf’s creativity, vision and ability to dictate attacking play complement Huckle’s defensive intelligence, physical presence and organisational skills, giving the club significant strength at both ends of the court.

The arrivals signal London Mavericks’ intent as they continue building a squad capable of challenging at the top of the Netball Super League, with two of the sport’s most accomplished athletes now set to wear Mavericks colours in 2027.
