Mikki Austrin departs London Mavericks role

London Mavericks have announced that coach Mikki Austin is to leave ahead of the new season.

After a challenging but promising 2026 Netball Super League campaign, London Mavericks ultimately missed out on a place in the Finals Series, finishing sixth in the table. While the results may not have fully reflected the ambitions of players, staff and supporters, there were plenty of encouraging signs throughout the season. In the club’s first year in the new professional era, Mavericks showed genuine progress and laid important foundations that can be built upon in the seasons ahead.

Austin’s departure also brings to an end a return to the club that helped shape her playing career. Having come through the Hertfordshire Mavericks pathway before making her senior debut as a teenager, she quickly established herself as one of the league’s most determined and respected competitors. Her appointment as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026 season felt like a homecoming of sorts, reconnecting a former Maverick with the club where it all began.

Of course, much of Austin’s reputation within the game was built during her hugely successful spell with Surrey Storm. A key member of the Storm side that lifted back-to-back Netball Super League titles in 2015 and 2016, Austin enjoyed success on court before moving seamlessly into leadership roles off it. Three consecutive Fans’ Player of the Season awards reflected her popularity and influence, while her later work as Director of Netball and Head Coach showcased her ability to inspire and develop those around her. Guiding Storm to the Finals Series in 2023 only strengthened her standing as one of the most exciting coaching talents in the sport.

Although her time back at Mavericks lasted just one season, Austin’s impact should not be underestimated. Working alongside Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway and Head Coach Camilla Buchanan, she brought experience, energy and an unwavering competitive mindset to the coaching team. Just as importantly, she added another strong voice to the club’s long-term vision, helping to nurture standards, support player development and contribute to a positive culture around the squad. While supporters will undoubtedly be disappointed to see her move on, there’s every reason to believe the influence she has left behind will continue to benefit London Mavericks as the club looks ahead to the future.
