Emma Magee joins Leeds Rhinos for next season
The Rhinos have strengthened their attacking options for the 2023 Netball Super League season with the signing of Northern Ireland international and former Surrey Storm player Emma Magee.
Magee, who is the older sister of current Rhinos player Michelle, can play goal attack, goal shooter and wing attack, made 18 appearances for Storm and scored 103 goals over two seasons before taking a year away from playing in 2023.
She captained Northern Ireland U21s in the 2017 Netball Youth World Cup before representing the senior Northern Ireland in the 2019 World Cup and in 2022 Commonwealth Games. Alongside her netball, Magee also plays Gaelic Football with Antrim Ladies
Speaking about signing for the Leeds, Magee said: “I am super excited and feel very honoured to be joining the Leeds Rhinos team this season. Liana is someone who I’ve always admired as a younger player. Her flare, creativity and knowledge of the game is so impressive and I can’t wait to learn and grow in that type of environment. Playing back alongside my sister is also a dream come true!”
Leeds Rhinos Director of Netball, Liana Leota said: “I am excited for Emma to return to the Super League in 2024. I think I got a front-row seat for her at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and I thought she was a standout player. She is creative in attack and her ability to get free and her confidence to turn to the hoop is a great asset for us.
“She can definitely shoot from anywhere, so I am sure she will add lots to our team and will thrive. Although she is only young, she has been playing internationally for many years and last year chose to take some time out of the game and I know she is looking forward to getting back on court. She is a player who will work hard and get the job done.”
