Oyella out for season due to ACL

Stella’s season has been confirmed complete due to an ACL injury.

Strathclyde Sirens have today confirmed that Stella Oyella has been ruled out for the remainder of the Netball Super League 2023 season.
The Ugandan international was taken off due to injury during Sirens vs Celtic Dragons match back in March. It was later confirmed Stella had sustained a rupture to her ACL.

Head Coach, Lesley MacDonald confirms;

“Stella will remain with the Sirens team throughout the season and the club will support her through her surgery and rehab. We will announce a replacement for Stella in due course.”

Karen Atkinson, performance director at Netball Scotland and Strathclyde Sirens adds;

“Sport can certainly be cruel at times. We are all devastated for Stella. She has been a phenomenal addition to our squad, both on & off the court, and was beginning to really find her feet in the NSL. We have fantastic support behind the club and our priority is to ensure Stella is looked after during her surgery and rehab. I have no doubt she will be back even stronger than before.”

Oyella made an impact from pre-season in her debut NSL season. Earning her first Player of The Match award in round 2 where she came on and changed the course of the match from four points down to a nine point lead. Speaking as the Gilbert POTM Oyella says;

“I have got this opportunity to show the world I can do it, the determination we have as a team, the hard work and the passion really push me on to go hard for my team.”

Strathclyde Sirens are processing a replacement player and will announce this imminently. For all the latest news join our mailing list.
