Rachel Dunn joins Dragons
Leading NSL great Rachel Dunn has been announced as a Celtic Dragons replacement player.
After making her return to Celtic Dragons this season, we are sad to confirm that Chelsea Beard will miss the rest of the 2023 Netball Super League campaign on medical grounds.
Chelsea came back to Dragons with a bang, winning Player of the Match in our first home game against Team Bath. Her dominance in attack has had our opposition scratching their heads as her creative movement opened the circle securing the victory which was 54 – 45. Chelsea wasted no time becoming a valued part of the Dragons Squad and will be missed by all her teammates, spectators, and staff alike.
With Chelsea being unable to compete for the rest of the season, we are delighted to announce that her replacement is a familiar Netball Super League name. We welcome NSL legend Rachel Dunn to our Celtic Dragons roster for the rest of the season.
Rachel Dunn is one of the most recognizable faces in the Netball Super League and has a record amount of NSL titles. She is one of only a handful of players who has played in every NSL season from its inception. Rachel played her 250th Netball Super League match in March last year (2022) and in that season had a 93% shooting accuracy.
As well as being one of the longest-standing athletes playing in the Netball Super League, Rachel debuted for England on the international stage in 2004 and went on to be one of the longest-serving players, gaining 92 caps, 3 World Cup Medals and 7 NSL titles.
Following Wasps Netball sadly withdrawing before the season started, the netball community and Rachel thought she wouldn’t be playing in the competition this year. We are delighted to have Rachel join Dragons for the remainder of the 2023 season and are pleased we can give Rachel the opportunity to play in another Netball Super League season.
Rachel will make her Celtic Dragons debut on Monday 20th March against Surrey Storm live on Sky Sports YouTube.
Rachel’s first home game will be our ‘Show Your International Colours’ round on Monday 27th March at House of Sport! We only have limited tickets remaining! So be sure to get your tickets here, and wear the colours of the nation that represents you!
