New deal for Oyesola

Leeds Rhinos Netball have confirmed that Vicki Oyesola, 24, has committed her future to the Rhinos for the 2023 Vitality Netball Superleague season.

Oyesola, who can play at goal defence and wing defence, made her debut for the Rhinos in the club’s first ever game in 2021 and has now played 39 times for Leeds over two seasons.  As co-captain for the Rhinos last season she was one of the most consistent performers in the team and won the Rhinos Coaches’ Award at the end of the campaign.

The London born player will be entering her seventh Superleague season in 2023.  Her debut came with Hertfordshire Mavericks before she joined Loughborough Lightning and last season she made her 100th appearance in the competition in the final game of the 2022 season. She won the first of her six caps for the Roses in 2017.

Speaking about her decision to stay at the Rhinos Oyesola said: “It’s good to be going into my third year with the Rhinos and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can progress this season.  Aiming for that top four is always going to be a priority so hopefully we will be able to secure that in 2023.

“It is exciting that we have got Liana coming in, especially for three years and I know she has got a lot of knowledge that she can share with us.

“With it being my third season hopefully I can be a role model for the new players that are coming in and put my best foot forward.

“I think having our games back in Yorkshire last season helped us build up quite a big fan base, which we couldn’t do as much in our first season so hopefully we will be able to carry that on and grow that more in 2023.”

Leeds Rhinos Netball’s head coach Liana Leota added: “I am very happy that Vicki is returning for another year.  I think last season was the best I have seen her so far.  She was consistently on the court and was getting player of the matches week in week out.  Her leadership for the girls along with Jade I think would have would have helped that team along and we are delighted she has committed her future back with the Rhinos.”

Oyesola is the second player to confirmed for the 2023 Rhinos Netball squad after Brie Grierson.
