Grierson returns for Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos Netball have confirmed homegrown talent Brie Grierson as the first player to sign for their franchise for the 2023 Vitality Netball Superleague season.

The Leeds born Wing Attack has played in every game for the Rhinos since the club’s debut season in 2021 and her form earned her a place in the Futures Roses programme.

The 25-year-old, who started her career with Yorkshire Jets before going on to play for Team Northumbria, Loughborough Lightning and London Pulse, has made 40 appearances for Leeds and scored 126 goals.  She was the winner of the inaugural Maggie Birkinshaw Club Champion award in her first year and has been part of the leadership team for the last two seasons.

Speaking about her new deal with Rhinos Netball, Grierson said: “I can’t believe we are heading into year three already, I feel like it has flown by, but I am very excited to be heading back to the Rhinos.

“I am a huge fan of Liana Leota so am looking forward to working with her.  I have worked with her with Futures Roses so to get to work with in Superleague is unbelievable and it was a massive thing for me to know I would be getting to work with her daily.

“I am honoured to be the first player announced and I don’t want to give anything away but I think the fans should be very excited, it’s a bit of a new look side but I think it’s a very good squad.

“One of the big reasons I decided to stay with the Rhinos is the team spirit we have at the club, it is genuinely like hanging out with your friends every day.  Obviously we have a lot of new girls this year but I think the team spirit will continue and it is topped off with Liana becoming coach and the amount I hope to learn from her is incredible.”

Rhinos Netball’s head coach Liana Leota said: “I’m very lucky as I’ve had the opportunity to work with Brie with the Roses. I think she has so much flair and creativity. She’s someone that I hope will have a big future and hopefully with us working together we can see her grow and develop.”
