LIghtning confirm Hinchliffe
Sunshine Coast Lightning is extremely proud to announce Maddie Hinchliffe as the 10th squad member for Season 2022.
The Lightning Training Partner has been elevated to the senior team in lieu of Karla Pretorius who is currently expecting her first child.
Hinchliffe made her debut in Lightning colours in Round 14 of 2021 and has been rewarded with a Permanent Replacement Player contract after another impressive pre-season.
Head Coach Kylee Byrne is confident Hinchliffe will relish this opportunity and compliment the wider squad with her professionalism, team-first attitude and determination on court.
“I’m so happy for Maddie, she has unquestionably earned this contract and she will step up to the elite SSN level with ease,” Byrne said.
“Maddie has such natural talent but she will also leave no stone unturned in her preparations and that has shone through in the hard work she has put in this pre-season.
“What’s more, Maddie is a great Club person and I have no doubt she will continue to elevate the group both on and off court.
“Round 1 is now less than a month away, so to have solidified our 10 gives real clarity for the season and allows us to bed done those combinations and structures and I can’t wait to see what this group of athletes can achieve.
“I’d also like to highlight the depth of talent within this group through our Training Partner program, we have an impressive standard across our entire roster and that will only help the Club this year.”
Hinchliffe said she’s incredibly grateful and excited to be named in the senior squad for 2022.
“It’s still sinking in. This is something I’ve worked so hard for, and I’m just humbled that Kylee and the coaches have put their faith in me,” Hinchliffe said.
“Now I just want to keep working hard, play my role for the team and make sure I’m best prepared to contribute to the team’s success in Round 1 and beyond.
“Also, I know I have Karla’s leadership and knowledge that I can draw on – albeit from afar – as well as the support of my teammates here on the Coast.”
Sunshine Coast Lightning’s full playing squad of 10 in 2022 is as follows: Steph Wood, Cara Koenen, Laura Scherian, Kate Shimmin, Mahalia Cassidy, Maddie Hinchliffe, Kadie-Ann Dehaney, Tara Hinchliffe, Reilley Batcheldor and Annie Miller.
