Housby makes it 100 in SSN
Two Super Netball premierships, Commonwealth Gold and World Cup bronze; there’s not much Helen Housby hasn’t achieved. This weekend she plays game 100, another milestone worth celebrating.
NSW Swifts’ star import Helen Housby will celebrate her 100th national league game when she takes the court in front of a Sydney home-crowd at Ken Rosewall Arena on Saturday night.
The two-time NSW Swifts premiership player has cemented her place as one of the world’s best goalers over a 99-game Australian career that commenced with a Swifts debut in 2017.
Prior to playing in the Suncorp Super Netball league Housby was a member of the Manchester Thunder Super League team from 2013 to 2016. Her first taste of major silverware came in 2014 while playing for Thunder in the Superleague Grand Final against Surrey. At just 19 years of age, she scored the winning buzzer-beater goal.
During her second year studying zoology at Manchester University in 2017 she was offered a chance to sign professionally for the NSW Swifts and has flourished on Australian soil since.
After struggling with injury in 2019, she returned at the end of the year to play in NSW Swifts’ Super Netball Grand Final. It was the side’s first title in the Suncorp Super Netball era, making it even more memorable for Housby.
Last year, Housby was part of the NSW Swifts team who once more claimed the Suncorp Super Netball title, defeating neighbouring rivals Giants Netball. During her 2021 campaign, she recorded 200 goal assists, 215 points and shot at 83.8% accuracy.
Internationally, Housby’s English Roses performances have seen her achieve a 73-game cap and compete against her Australian teammates all over the world.
Housby will play her 100th national league game during the NSW Swifts heritage match Saturday 9 April at 7.00pm against the Collingwood Magpies as both teams search for their first wins of the season.
