Scottish Thistles Reveal Birmingham 2022 Dresses

Scottish Thistles together with Team Scotland are delighted to showcase the new Nike dress that they will take to court in during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer.

Nike designers worked with Netball Scotland and Team Scotland to bring the Thistles heritage and journey to life. Built around the shared values of Team Scotland and Netball Scotland – Proud, United, Ambitious, Inspirational, and Inclusive – the design maps the journey of the thistles through the Hills and Glens shown in the dynamic design and woven through with stripe and net elements representing the bold new era of Netball in Scotland.

Claire Nelson, CEO of Netball Scotland says;

“As existing proud partners of Nike, we are delighted to be wearing their dress at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. As with all previous national dresses we are excited to present an iconic design. This design reflects Team Scotland’s Commonwealth Games brand for 2022 and incorporates the Clan heritage of Scotland which we are extremely proud to represent whilst also combining Nike’s dynamic and innovative style.”

Seven of the 12-stong netball team will make their Games debuts in Birmingham in a squad led by captain Claire Maxwell who is competing at her third Games. Emily Nicholl takes on the vice-captain role at her second Games, while Beth Goodwin and Niamh McCall also return from the team that took 9th place in Gold Coast.

Emily Nicholl, Vice-captain explains; “It’s hard to put into words how special it is. We are in such a privileged position to be able to be on court and share this moment and pulling the dress on is always one of our proudest moments.”

Sarah MacPhail adds;

“To get to wear the Scotland dress is my biggest source of pride, I’ve been dreaming of it since I was a child so I’m very happy.”

Captain Claire Maxwell says;

“When you wear that Scotland dress and you have that Scotland flag around you, it is the proudest moment of your life. Not many people get this opportunity and it’s one we don’t take lightly. It is a huge honour and one we pour blood, sweat and tears into earning. We can’t wait to get out there in our new dresses.”
