NNI Update

Another update from Netball NI

Following the Northern Ireland Executive most recent announcement we have received some guidance regarding the implications for sport. As such, we are confirming the following:

Suspension of all Netball activity, indoor and outdoor, excluding the exemptions granted to our elite athletes, until further notice.

It is anticipated the suspension will be in force for the full six weeks of the restrictions from 26th December with the inclusion of suspended elite competition from 26th December to 2nd January.

Netball NI recognises the significant challenges facing the health service due to the COVID-19 pandemic and understands that the NI Executive have had to make difficult decisions to overcome this virus.

We understand that you may be disappointed to not be able to participate in netball for the next number of weeks but require members to ensure continued full compliance with the regulations to put us on a platform to a return to full activity in the months ahead.

For clarity our suspension is in line with the regulations noted below:

From 00:01 26 December to 1 January inclusive (ends at 00:01 on 2 Jan)

No sporting events permitted at all, even at elite level.
Elite athletes permitted to train between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Outdoor sports and exercise facilities including activity centres, equestrian centres, Golf courses, marinas and venues relating to motor sport and water sport must close.

Indoor sports and exercise facilities, including soft play areas, leisure centres, climbing facilities, rinks, gyms, swimming pools, equestrian centres and venues relating to sports activity must close.

Outdoor exercise permitted only as an individual or with members of your own household.

From 00:01 2 January 2021
Outdoor gatherings for the purposes of exercise or sport are only permitted for elite athletes, for the purposes of P.E in or for schools, or if participants are members of the same household.

Outdoor sports and exercise facilities including activity centres, equestrian centres, Golf courses, marinas and venues relating to motor sport and water sport must close.

Indoor sport is only permitted for elite athletes or for P.E in, or for, schools.

Indoor sports and exercise facilities, including soft play areas, leisure centres, climbing facilities, rinks, gyms, swimming pools, equestrian centres and venues relating to sports activity must close.

Elite training and competition can continue, both indoors and outdoors.

Spectators are not permitted at elite sporting events

Based on the information above; Netball NI reiterate, there must be no club or social netball activity, indoor or outdoor until further notice. School activity is excluded from the suspension on their return in January, but please note this must only be delivered subject to strict adherence to the Netball NI School Guidelines that have been issued to all affiliated schools and is available on our website.

Netball NI will continue to work with the relevant bodies to find a suitable avenue for a return of our sport in a safe and responsible manner to allow the physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits of participating in netball be regained by our members.

Netball NI continue to recognise our role in supporting the efforts to supress the spread of the virus and protect the health and wellbeing of our netball family and the wider Northern Ireland community.

The health and safety of members, staff, volunteers and officials is and will always be the priority for Netball NI and all sections of the Netball family are required to adhere to this statement.

Netball NI staff members will adhere to the essential travel only guidance and therefore continue to work from home throughout January. The staff team are available on email and mobile.
