Surrey Storm have completed their 2021 squad by confirming the addition of Felisitus Kwangwa.
Felisitus, who has now taken over the Gems’ Captains mantle is making history by becoming the first Zimbabwean international athlete to play in the professional English Super League. Representing Zimbabwe at the 2019 Netball World Cup, defender Felisitus helped her team to record an historic 8th place finish and received the Player of the Match award on two occasions.
Felisitus is excited at the opportunity to join Surrey Storm and said, “I was so excited to know that Mikki the Head Coach wanted me to join Surrey Storm. I had heard so much about the team and it will be an honour to represent the franchise. I am also proud to be the first Zimbabwean netballer to play in Vitality Netball Super League and I want to make my fellow Zimbabweans proud.”
The 25-year-old Goal Defender was a standout player at the 2019 Netball World Cup with three Player of the Match performances. She led the competition in deflections and was sixth for intercepts as Zimbabwe were named team of the tournament.
Thrilled with the signing, Mikki Austin said: “New to Surrey Storm for this season, we are so excited to have an athlete of Felisitus’ calibre joining our defensive end.
“As an athlete who stood out head and shoulders for her ability to win the ball for Zimbabwe at Netball World Cup 2019, we cannot wait to see her compete in duck egg blue.”
