Hayhornthwaite returns for World Cup
Great news as Swifts have confirmed that Nat’s playing return will be at the Netball World Cup
NSW Swifts attacker Natalie Haythornthwaite has been ruled out of Suncorp Super Netball action until after the 2019 Netball World Cup which takes place in Liverpool next month.
The English Commonwealth Gold medal winner injured her left hamstring in pre-season and is yet to take the court for the Swifts in a competitive game this year.
Due to an extended rehabilitation Haythornthwaite’s playing return will be for the England Roses at the World Cup.
NSW Swifts General Manager Nikki Horton said Haythornthwaite had been the ultimate professional in her rehab work, and getting her right for international duty was the new priority.
“It’s been a frustrating time for Natalie but her attitude and work ethic has impressed everyone at the club,” Horton said.
“We’ve had a good start to the season and Natalie has played her part in our fantastic support network.
“Not only is she key for us, she’s also a very important player for England, and given the World Cup comes before the later rounds of Super Netball we’re working with them to have her ready to go for Liverpool.
“We want to see all of our players in action at the highest level, and the World Cup – along with the Commonwealth Games – is the pinnacle of the game.
“Like our head coach Briony Akle said a few months ago, the back-end of Super Netball will be very tough and having a refreshed international player like Natalie coming back into our squad will be a huge bonus.”
