Leeds Rhinos Netball have appointed Rachel Dauber as their first Netball development officer
As Anna Carter told us on the UK Netball Podcast – The Netball Show last week
In her role, Dauber will work throughout Yorkshire to help raise the profile and capacity of Leeds Rhinos Netball, in partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation. Since their launch back in 2017, Leeds Rhinos Netball have provided great opportunities for aspiring players at a range of levels, whilst working towards their ultimate ambition of securing a Superleague franchise.
Dauber’s work will enhance the already diverse offering from Leeds Rhinos Foundation in schools, with the charity already delivering coaching in rugby, football, athletics and dance. The 28-year-old has been involved with Netball from an early age, earning representative honours with the British College’s elite squad and playing for Superleague side Team Northumbria, before going on to coach for British Colleges and NPL team North East.
More recently, Dauber has been coaching and playing overseas in Malta and Egypt to support the global development of Netball and nurture local talent.
“I’m really excited to start and help get more girls involved in the sport,” said Dauber.
“I am looking forward to going into schools across the region to deliver different sessions and also managing the hubs and academies for Leeds Rhinos Netball, as we continue our aim to discover new talent and bring top-level netball to Yorkshire.”
Leeds Rhinos Netball is committed to supporting the country’s most popular female team sport by delivering training hubs, camps and workshops to girls across the region. The club offers a pathway for netballers of all ages, providing specialist coaching and development opportunities for athletes.
Anna Carter, Director of Leeds Rhinos Netball added, “It is wonderful to have recruited our first Netball Development Officer, especially one of Rachel’s calibre. Her knowledge of the game will no doubt assist in boosting the profile and aspirations for not only young people throughout Yorkshire, but also the Leeds Rhinos Netball brand.”
“Netball is enjoying a bit of a boom at the minute following the country’s achievements in winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, as well as Moment and Team of the Year at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
“With that obviously comes more people wanting to get involved with the sport and we want to be able to facilitate that, which the Netball Development Officer will be instrumental in supporting.”
