Following Thunders win over Sirens Kerry Almond writes for The Netball Show
We finally headed back into a competitive fixture this weekend against Sirens after 3 weeks away. Before the game it felt like a lifetime ago that we faced Mavericks at Super 10, but once we hit the court we found our momentum and really hit our straps, taking the game with one of the biggest margins that I can remember in recent seasons – 70-45. We’ve been guilty of beating teams but not pushing the score out as much as we know we can do, so it was pleasing for us all to get that score line. Sirens are a tough team who really test you physically and they have quality players all over the court. None more so than Cat Tuivaiti. She’s a fierce competitor on the court and definitely isn’t afraid to ask you questions out there. But once off the court it’s smiles and respect. Which is exactly how it should be – what happens on the court stays on the court.
If you don’t follow Thunder or Netball UK (my day job) on social media you won’t have seen that I have a new ball out! Designed in conjunction with Gilbert, it’s fab and I love it, and it seems the Thunder fans love it as well as it sold out at the game on Saturday! I had a few questions about the design of it on Saturday and why I picked those colours in particular, but those in the netball world know where my allegiances lie club wise. The blue background with red accents are a nod to the fact that I’ve only ever played for one club in my whole netballing life – Oldham. I’m an Oldham girl born and bred so it was important for me to get that in with this ball. The bees, honeycomb and black & yellow are of course Thunder related and I’m incredibly proud to be able to say that I’ve spent my entire Superleague career with Thunder never wanting (or needing) to go elsewhere.
It’s not available online just yet, but when it is, it’s exclusive to Netball UK and I’d suggest getting it quickly as it’s extremely limited edition 😊 There will be a few available at our game next Monday against London Pulse, which is Live on Sky Sports! You won’t want to miss it. The ball, or the game.
